Deaf Dawah
Deaf Dawah's intent and purpose is to promote the wellbeing and growth of Deaf Muslims by providing space and opportunity to explore faith as part of their identity.
We would like to envisage a society in which human uniqueness and differences are embraced and where disabilities and impairments are not perceived as barriers to gaining spiritual, educational and social fulfilment.
Our objectives
Exploring faith: by providing space and opportunity to gain knowledge of Islam through accessible means and services.
Raising awareness: by raising deaf awareness and disabilities and in particular the issues faced by Deaf Muslims both within the wider Muslim community and in mainstream society.
Building bridges: by facilitating positive communication between deaf and hearing communities and inviting them to develop and work together.
Improving quality of life: of Muslim people with hearing impairment and disabilities, and in doing so addressing their spiritual, educational and social needs.
Educate and empower: by achieving greater access to learning and support for personal development.
Connecting views: by providing a platform that raises the views of deaf and disabled people to individuals, community groups, organisations and policy-makers.
Campaigning for real change: to challenge social systems and promote the rights to independent living, enabling deaf and disabled people greater freedom to make life choices.
Our guiding principles
We extend our 'invitation' to work in partnership with those individuals and organisations who share our objectives and guiding principles.
We embrace equality, diversity, inclusion, accessibility and promote integration which celebrates human differences and uniqueness.
We wish to provide support to groups and organisations seeking to develop work with Deaf Muslims.
We strive to engage in clear and open dialogue, with other groups from diverse backgrounds and encourage inter-faith dialogue.
We seek to disseminate our work to ensure it has a positive impact.
